In 1971, an organized plan to assist people in the Sun City Center started with the formation of a Tri-Church Social Action Council. In order to achieve their planned activities, funds had to be earned. The result was the Nearly New Shop in Wimauma to the east of Sun City Center. As the Sun City Center community grew over the years there was an expansion of the number of Houses of Worship to include 9 through 2012. The Interfaith Social Action Council of Sun City Center was incorporated in 1972. In 2001 the Nearly New Shop was relocated from Wimauma to Sun City Center.

To date, the Interfaith Council has been the benefactor of more than two million dollars from the sales of donated items sold by the Nearly New Shop. The Greater Sun City Center Community has been very generous with their support through donations.

All Houses of Worship located within Sun City Center are eligible to join the Interfaith Council. The Interfaith Council operates the Nearly New Shop which provides the major source of revenue along with miscellaneous monetary donations. These earnings are given back to the South Hillsborough community in the form of grants and scholarships.
